Government must take control of fuel crisis, says RMI

Brian Madderson, RMI Petrol chairman, is calling on the Government to control the panic fuel buying which has swept across the UK this week.

Madderson said: ”Government created this fuel crisis and now it must take full control.”

Starting slowly on Monday, motorists and business users have pushed up demand rapidly over just four days to yesterday’s unsustainable levels.

Sales of diesel has risen by 76.8% and unleaded is up by 171.8% over the last week.

Much like Mini at its launch, Fiat remains largely a one-model make (here in the United States, that is). While that may not change anytime soon in the U.S., there are rumblings that the model lineup in Canada could expand.

Buoyed by sales proportionately larger above the 49th Parallel than below it, Fiat is apparently plans to add the new Panda (pictured above) and the aging Punto to the Canadian market. Coupled with the expected arrival of the 500L in Fiat “studios” both in Canada and the United States, suddenly the availability of affordable Italian cars looks on the up in the country where Sergio Marchionne was schooled. Nissan to revive Datsun in emerging markets

This week Nissan has announced that it will be reviving the Datsun brand in a bid to target drivers in emerging markets around the world.

The car manufacturer has stated that it plans to invest $400 million (£251 million) into Indonesia over the next two years and that it will also be targeting sales in India and Russia.

The huge cash injection will enable them to double hiring and production by 2014, and they will also plan plant expansions and new car dealerships in Southeast Asia.

Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn spoke about the Datsun saying: Its a green car, affordable car, small displacement, high local content.

Week in Review: Big Fools, Bigger Apples, and a Massive Sandwich

We regret to inform you that, from our staff, there will be no April Fools Day jokes. There will be no rebirth of the Saturn brand. There will be no second-generation Shogun hatchback based on the Kia Rio with a turbocharged four-cylinder shoved into it. Were spoilsports this year, but then again, April Fools has been played out for the past few years in the auto journalism realm, and were better than plastering you with the most unbelievable of faux stories because we like to laugh at our own jokes.

But there are still plenty of April fools to be had, and most decided to start a week early this year.
