I’ve heard there are more and more people building and buying custom motorcycles nowadays. I can sort of see why this trend is steadily growing in the industry.

When I was first bitten by the motorcycle bug there was a huge variety of models on offer but no customs to choose from. Harley Davidson, Norton and BMW were all on offer but there was never many people building custom bikes. I suppose the motorcycle world was a lot smaller back then (showing my age here am I not?) and most people who did own one saw it almost as a way of life and were in to alternative lifestyles. Today there are many more choices and loads more people who ride. People of all ages and types can be seen on motorbikes these days. The thrill of being out on the open roads and the sense of adventure it brings has seen motorbike sales increase over the years. The custom motorcycle didn’t come until much later. I had friends that were designing, painting and engineering back then but there was not as big a market as there is today. They would regularly put up motor bike adverts trying to sell on their customised models but, in the days of the all-conquering Triumph and Harley, they just couldn’t get the interest.

It would be good to hear from other people and what they have to say on the subject. How long have people been involved in custom motorcycles?
